Fun find at work today. It was glaring right at me to be pulled from circulation. The rest of today is going to be great. It's the small things in life
Here is the 1862 IHC CAC MS63 that I picked up. I'm one that HATES carbon flecks on IHC's. There are just a few, on the obverse in/at the headdress. If the obverse were only as clean as the reverse.....Where I'm working backwards date-wise, it's back to square one looking for the '61 and earlier.
No time for pics right now, but the recent Roosy additions are ( All BU ) 1955 P 1956 Proof, 1961 Proof, 1960-63 P. I find this is an easy series to acquire, and the prices on BU example's aren't too bad. I know the design can be bland to some, just a portrait of FDR. However, there always seems to be a demand for them somewhere. Also I'd like to complete a set, you never know when they may decide to change the design. I don't foresee it anytime soon though. I've also been working on a silver dime type set in highest grades I can afford. That is quite fun too.
Show in Charlottesville today. Spent more than I wanted but got some cool stuff. Have to go to the darkside to see most of them.
Although this coin looks like any other "Sol" reverse of Sev. A., this one is actually fairly rare, as it was minted during the last 3 or so months of his reign before big Max I axed him and his mom. I have been on the hunt for one for 2 years now. Some surfaced on CNG but they go for past my budget, this one surfaced at what I was willing to pay and now a white whale was captured. One can tell its the last issue due to the "XIIII" on the reverse! Severus Alexander (222 - 235 A.D.) AR Denarius O: IMP ALEXANDER PIVS AVG, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. R: PM TR P XIIII COS III PP, Sol walking left holding whip and raising hand. Rome Mint, January–February/March, 235 A.D. 2.8g 19mm RIC125 Rare
