1961 Lincoln Cent Circulation Strike (MS65RB). Colorfully toned Proof Lincolns from the year 1961 are almost common; while toned Circulation Strikes from that same year are quite a bit more rare. I am not sure what the fine parallel lines are in the obverse field, is it possible they are die polish lines?
Here Something Else about Buying. Test on Old Green label PCI grades on mostly Morgan dollar and Peace dollars. Coin News RSS feed has more information. http://news.coinupdate.com/crossover-reality-check-old-green-pci-holders-4898/
Do coins degrade once slabbed? This quarter is graded MS65 by NGC. Would the dark residue likely have been there on the obverse when it was graded? I understand the grading company casings are not air tight, so humidity over time will cause issues eventually. Got it for below half of its NGC valuation.
That's a fairly recent pronged holder. I suspect that's what the coin looked like when slabbed. Perhaps another example of gradeflation.
YES!!!! I have have been on the hunt for this coin to match my other for a good while. Wasn't sure I would see it since it has a population of 6 with the plus grade. I now am probably the only person in the world with the matching set since both pops are so low. The Reverse of 1938, which I got last year, has a pop of 4 in the plus grade.
This has got some pedigree though I'm not sure how rare? (What is S/S?) I do not have better pictures, so trusting PCGS with this. I get a "Can not find matching coin" when searching PCGS database.
If this retains its brilliance with time, it should be interesting in years to come. It could just be the lighting though!
