Okay, I know I said I was on a coin buying hiatus, but when browsing for NGC star coins, I found this one. I think it's undergraded and from the pictures, think the fields will be nice and reflective. I already own a 66+, but fell in love with this one as well.

1878-S Morgan Dollar is a nice
MS 63 + or Star I think the reverse is what made graders issue the grade so low. Compared with Obverse.
Still one to try to get cheap if possible.

Just got this first year issue back from PCGS -- it graded PR68DC. This is an underrated and underloved modern design (IMHO) -- one of the better designs to come out in modern times.

The reverse typically won't bring the overall grade down much unless it really bad. In this case, I think the reverse is maybe a 64. I've seen worse on 65's.

I'll really only be able to judge it well when I get it in hand. What I posted were the auction house pictures.

Next step off to CAC for the Saint (getting 65 and higher Saints to pass is a bear). Then photos of both by Messydesk. I think Barbie is the top 100 "doubled ear" - but not worth bothering to get that on the slab.

Can the copper nickel 1864 contain the "L" on the ribbon. I just got this today and if you look at the picture it looks like there is an upside down "L"?

The coin would have been a good choice for a bimetallic composition.

I did some research and a few IHC were made with the sideways letter "L" and my eyes are not the best and it sticks out like a sore thumb at home as well. Is this my imagination either way I like the coin and I am happy with it. If it has the letter L is there more value to it. It's not mint but it's it has some detail.

Agreed. I recently sold all my IHCs, except for the 08-S (didn't have an 09-S) and all my copper-nickel ones. I couldn't let them go.

Still looking for a nice VF-XF 1861 though.

After watching Jello's video clip, I would say no.

Well I watched the video and compared it to my 1864 Bronze non L and the point of the base of the neck are the same. What a place to have a mark shaped like an L it fooled me. I Hope I did not waste your time.
