1916 Matte Proof Lincoln. I picked up this 1916 Matte Proof Lincoln Cent (PCGS PR64RB CAC) in last month's Goldberg Auction for about 60% of guide price. Guide price is $3350 and I won this for $1850 + 15% buyers premium, which was a great price for a relatively spot-free 1916 Matte Proof. I really liked the hammered strike with the great beard and hair detail, the lava-like red glow in the center, and the lack of spots. Of course the super-wide razor-sharp rims are really cool too.

I know it's not the most beautiful Matte Proof in the world, but it's not bad at that price point. And it's a rarity with only 188 PCGS slabbed examples floating around out there for this date.

This gave me a really low cost way to fill one of two remaining holes in my Matte Proof Lincoln Set. All the coins shown below are PCGS graded (with the assigned grade shown below each coin); and I added my buy price for each coin under that info. Note that all the coin images are resized PCGS TrueView photos. The 1909 vdb is too darned expensive, so I will never fill that hole; but 8 out of 9 ain't bad!

An emperor thats been high on my want list for whatever reason.

Basically an "as found" coin, tons of silvering under the crud but I dont know how to clean these types & am afraid to attempt.

Bought mainly for the portrait and good weight, 4.7g which is tough for him.

    Clickable for full resolution.

Okay, here are my pics. Cleaned the junk off the slab with WD40, hope that was not a mistake.

I was told Goof Off will clean slabs and repair minor scratches as well. Can anyone verify or is it actually harmful to the coin/slab?

Haven't tried it yet simply because I haven't verified the info yet, but now seems to be a good time.

Hmm, headlight scratch repair, that might actually work. Maybe a 1-2 combo. Goof Off to clean any residue and Renew to buff out those annoying scratches.

    Thanks Angelo!

Your Welcome!!!!! I found this out after using Re-Headlights on our car.I already had a sample bottle of slab Re-New I ck out the ingredients and they were the same thing just a new or different name. I live on a fixed income finding short cut is one thing I must do. ;)
