And a coin I've wanted since I was a young collector around 8 years old and first saw one 1795 flowing hair 2 leaves vf
Is a really crisp well struck one too with a lot of detail and clean fields the adjustment marks don't really bother me either at least their not across her face like quite a few I've seen
Wow, that is a fantastic-looking coin, a lot of pizzazz and originality showing on the surfaces. Looks to me to be the B-3, BB-20 variety, Rarity-3. Two Leaves, Head of 1795 (sharp bust point), star 1 pierces curl, berries 9x10, berry under r. side of A(MERICA). Most survivors are in Fine condition (per Bowers) so yours is a lot better. BB Die State II, obverse lapped, left-side stars "spidery" and lowest curl split in two by star. Congratulations on a great acquisition! Personally I have always wanted a 1799, I guess I just like the date. I remember when I was a kid in Dallas (before JFK) I went into a coin shop in a big department store downtown, maybe Sanger-Harris or Titche's (can't remember, I have slept since then), and saw a nice maybe XF 1799 for 40 bucks. Which of course I didn't have. I shoulda hit up my old man for it and done a long sales job. I probably could have talked him into it even though I probably would have had to do extra chores for six months. Best Regards, George
Sounds kind of familiar George is labeled as a b2 bb 20 pcgs vf details as it's been very lightly cleaned there's no fine lines or abrasions even under a loupe but it's somewhat glossy due to being dipped and it's starting to retone if not for the glossiness i believe it never would have got a details grade it was between this one and a f - 12 3 leaves that had great original color this one came up first I preferred the details and sharpness of this one and I bought it if I hadn't got this one I would've pursued the other but I couldn't afford both as to the 1799 that's a favorite too which I don't have yet you should have talked your father into it lol a similar story for me when I was about 8 years old and collecting wheat cents and buffaloes I met an older gentleman who was a lifelong collector and sold coins he influenced me greatly and his crown jewel in his type set was a 1795 flowing hair dollar that I'm remembering as vg - f it's been 30 years and I've never forgot it or stopped wanting one now only for a 1794 I think I'd trade my whole coin collection for one it'd probably be an even trade too
Yeah I meant B-2 BB-20, typo. Agree on the 1794, I too would trade my whole collection/inventory but it would have to be nice! Nice to talk with you and good luck in your future collecting! Best Regards, George
These arrived from Greg yesterday. Gots a feeling he's already posted a better photo somewhere in this thread..........
another one of those "I have to have this coin..." moments this week 1987 Constitution proof silver dollar
Thanks agreed on the 1794 a good clean fine example would be a fair trade they'd get some very decent early silver and large cents and some very appealing late 19th c silver and gold but all that I could buy again not a 1794 flowing hair dollar I have a friend who's owned 3 over the years and is not a coin collector or dealer per say he's a dealer in great historical Americana tho who knows coins as well as revelation art war doucuments weapons etc as well as anything to do with pre 1830 Americanà
