There's a difference between enjoying beer and having a drinking problem. I hope you understand that. Anyways, here is a 1924 Peace Dollar that I picked up for just over spot. Shame about the ding on the obverse. I still love her though.
Newest arrival in the mail today. That's the washed out version. These are the ones trying to correct that color issue and represent more closely how this appears in person. Pretty good for a wartime proof nickel!
A few I picked up from the bay this week 1964-D Kennedy and a 53-D Jefferson and a 49 Jefferson, from gbroke's house of toned coins
1937-D This coin has that matte/satin look with some attractive peripheral album toning. It was cracked out of a PCGS 65 slab. I agree with the grade. 1939-S Blazing luster with minimal contacts. This was purchased raw. I'd put it at a very very strong 64 or 65.
1940-D It took me a long time to finally locate one of these that met my needs. Just a remarkable raw coin. I'm pretty certain it's a 66.
A new greek I picked up. Ive always wanted this reverse type and the price was right so I bought one finally. Krannon, Thessaly, Greece, (350 - 300 B.C.) AE dichalkon O: Horseman galloping right, wearing petasos and chlamys. R: “KR-AN/NO”, hydria (water carrying vessel) mounted on cart. Krannon mint 4.605 17.4 Rogers Thessaly 197, SNG Cop 43, SGCV I 2073 It was customary in time of drought to take a sacred chariot with Hydria in procession through the City to supplicate Apollo for rain, and if a crow settled on the wheels, that was the sign that Apollo would grant the prayers of the faithful. -- Rev. Edgar Rogers in The Copper Coinage of Thessaly
Got this very nice 1956 type 1 Franklin to complete my proof Frankie set. Nice eye appeal coin that wasn't crazy in price.
Sorry to hear that Mdude. I also had a bit of bad luck and received a Franklin today. Thankfully he came with a pretty (and younger) lady.
gbroke, If I could freeze the progression of toning that Franklin is where I would. What a beauty. Curious how you'd grade that one? Extremely lustrous but some beautiful toning too... clean fields... nearly contact free save for that machine gun hit on the skull. I see alot of Washingtons with the same story. My heart tells me they're 65's but objectively I grade them as strong 64's. How would you lean on this one?
I saw a beautiful toned ms Jefferson wartime set housed in a capitol holder at a show and am kicking myself for not grabbing it... Until it's finished I'm trying to maintain my series focus and restraint!
