sweet deal. I have a similar 90 CC and it's one of my favorites... well, all my CC morgans are my favorites
Finally got one. Sellers pics are first, then mine. I've been practicing a little but still have miles to go. . .
Just bought a small lot of coins and few other things for $10 dollars at a yard sale yesterday when i actually looked at all the coins, about 20 wheats a Jar of 15 Buffalo's i saw that they all were not buffalo's
It is graded by ANACS as a AU58 FH..... Although I don't see anything to knock it down from MS. Anyone else see anything that would make it grade as a 58 and not a MS?
GOOD-GOOGILLIE-GOO !!!!! Awesome color, terrific shot. Never seen a toned cent that color near the edges...OMG !!! .
A (bad) photo of the sealed 1988-s Proof Set taken with my iPhone. The white rectangles reflected in the plastic are my two skylights. The Jefferson had similar blue/silver toning around the edges, but not the great raspberry interior that the Lincoln had. The other 3 coins in the set were basically untoned. In the spirit of full disclosure, I submitted this raspberry 1988-s Lincoln to PCGS using their Regular service with the coin cracked out of this set a few weeks ago and it came back Questionable Color. I am going to submit it a 2nd time (this time) using the Secure Plus service so it can be sniffed for illegal chemicals. Since it came out of a sealed set I am thinking the sniffer will find it clean and I am hoping PCGS will use that info to grade it. I wish that PCGS would accept coins in original OGP, but even if you sent them in that way they always crack the coins out as the first step, so the graders never see the OGP set. It's interesting that I have a very similar Proof Lincoln minted 10 years earlier (1978-S) that graded fine first time through (using the Secure Plus service). This 1978-s also came out of a sealed set that I bought about a year ago from a different seller. The 1978-s is not as nice IMHO as the 1988-s. Here is the 1978-S PCGS PR67RB ... (note the similarity in colors between the 2 coins). Since the 78-s graded, I see no reason why the 88-s shouldn't grade as well. But PCGS can be funny and inconsistent at times. And here is the full obverse of the 1988-s Proof Lincoln ...
One i cherryed at the Ontario show yesterday. Can you guess what it is? I'll make it EZ on you. Here is a close up i only had a hr to look.
This coin's luster is obnoxious (1938). The similarly graded coins next to it just paled in comparison. I had to have it. The gentlemen I purchased it from had no problem cracking it out for me but one witness kind of cringed... great addition to my set. Very pleased.
I'm pretty sure this has no bearing on the the color. When the sniffer detects something, the coin is considered to have "altered surfaces". We both know that "questionable color" doesn't mean it was purposely artificially toned, with our without the use of a foreign substance. It has to do with market acceptability. This will never happen. Not only are the proof and mint sets no where near air tight, the proof sets can be taken apart and put back together without anyone being the wiser.
