Picked this guy up from the local shop, still in the proof set. Probably set him free later this afternoon to get some good photos. until then, here are some photos including finger :cheers:
Sometimes you have to do what you want. I bought it because I got the SF set and wanted it to be with it. I am not a big ASE set collector but like I said wanted it as a set.
1832 Capped Bust Half (PCGS AU55). I bought this a few months ago in an NGC slab graded AU53. I submitted this to PCGS for an attempted crossing and it came back "Genuine - Planchet Flaw". So I had my friend Robec crack it out for me, photograph it, then submit it raw under Mint Errors. It just came back with a problem free AU55 grade from PCGS. Here is the TrueView photo that was just taken. I heard from a CBH expert on another board that the Planchet Flaw was actually something called "Drift Marks" with this statement:"Those streaks on the reverse are referred to as drift marks. They are indeed a type of planchet flaw, but actually occur long before the planchets are created. These imperfections occur during the milling process, the process of rolling strips of Silver from which the blanks are produced. The streaks are created when impurities in the Silver expand during the stretching of the metal while the strips are being rolled. The result of dispersal (or "drifiting") of the impurities are these black streaks." Interesting info!
Smoker Proof-Like 1904 Morgan Dollar Vam #8 Doubled Reverse Lettering This is one of my Grand-Father coins, by far, the most valuable of his coins ! I still have to take photos of his type 1,2,3, 1972 Ike dollars, and 1974-D ike dollars that are RPM, and designers errors too ! I'll be picking thoses up this weekend, here's the photos of Vam #8 (Reverse) It took 14 photos to get this Vam done ! The obverse of this coin has some issues too, the first 6 stars are doubled on the left side of the date, and it looks to me like it has some date issues too 1 of 3
neat coin! I guess if you don't agree with a grade, just keep submitting it until you get the opinion you want.
