Been picking up a few foreign silver pieces for spot since silver has been dropping. Nice way to add to the overall stack/collection. I call this 'bargain saving'

And lastly a recent eBay pickup. Like $8 or $10 for this one.

Please note this coin is NOT an error. The rim looks like that simply because the coin is tilted in the holder and not sitting flat. It's just a normal silver proof dime.

Was kind of hard capturing the color with my phone, but it's still a nice coin for the money.

I guess you're right, and none of the previous posters directly above you have posted anything but foreign stuff including myself.

My problem is I don't usually buy much foreign (as a serious collection piece) or really think of myself as that type of collector so I don't usually seek out that side of the forum.

I'm a US collector showing my new acquisitions of a foreign nature, at least that's how I am going to justify it. Lol.

Did I single you out ? No but if you want people to appreciate what you have post it in the proper section. If I want to see darkside material I will venture to the darkside.

Never said you singled me out, however I was owning up and acknowledging the fact that I was indeed placing these pictures in the wrong section.

I also find that folks appreciate the coins just fine in this here thread judging by the amount of 'likes' these images often receive. I'm happy as long as they are happy and this seems to be the first complaint I've seen of this nature on this particular thread, which I have acknowledged and has been duly noted.

Like I said, it was just merely a habit of posting all my new acquisitions in this thread, it's the one I'm subscribed to on my phone. No big deal

I suppose it wouldn't be all that much work to create a new thread "Post your newest ancient acquisition" But it's kind of fun posting it here. Think of it as an exercise in broadening people's horizons. After all, I collected US coins for years. It wasn't until CoinTalk recently became flooded with lots of ancient fans that my interest in ancients was piqued. Now I've officially been bitten by the bug...and I'm having a blast.

Who knows...maybe by posting in here, I bring a few more over to the darkside...Luke...

I don't know why these are coming up horizontal, but you can see what it is. Really too modern for me but at $14 I couldn't say no.

1911 Matte Proof Lincoln (PCGS PR65BN). I just bought this from Rick Snow at Eagle Eye Coins. Rick bought this coin from a collector about a month ago. It was in a PCGS Old Green Holder graded PR65BN. Rick thought this had upgrade potential (to PR66BN) so he sent this in to PCGS; however PCGS didn't agree (at least at this submission) and gave it a new Cert Number at the same grade. (Note that PCGS's new "Reconsideration Service" could have helped Rick retain the OGH if the coin didn't upgrade -- I need to tell Rick about that.)

I have to say that in-hand this coin is stunning and I cannot begin to capture the great violet color through the slab plastic. I snapped this photo this afternoon with my iPhone; however the coin is even more vibrant and colorful in hand, it's spot free, has fantastic gloss, and is one of the more hammered early MPLs that I have ever come across. The obverse strike actually reminds me of what you'd see on the highly detailed 1916's. I think this is one of the most beautiful "colorfully toned" 1911 MPLs that I've seen (certainly top 3 or 4 for that year, IMHO).

I picked up a couple of MPL's this week.

I've only received one so far. I should be receiving the second one in a few days. I'm pretty excited about that one.
