Hi Alan. I have always admired the lion design with a paw on what looks like the 10 commandments. this coin is made of copper. the ruler is Leopold 1 ruled from 1831-1865. this particular date 1837 has a mintage of 12,038,000. seems like a lot , but not to many mint state ones out there. from the PCGS population report there is only mine graded MS-64 and 1 other same date graded MS-65. I always search Ebay for high grades of this type of Belgium coin type. I want to eventually get/buy a mint state denomination set of the 1,2,5, and 10 centimes denominations. I just have the 1,2, 10 to go for ha ha ha.... the 10 is much harder/rarer to find in mint state and when they do come up they start at $500.00-600.00 dollars. I saw 2 come up on Ebay about 10 years ago. they were fantastic but $600.00 each and I was poor then.
spirityoda, Thanks for the info they are just such a beautiful coin, I hope you have luck and find the rest of the set. all the best Alan
thanks Alan. that's the beauty of coin collecting. it can be a lifetime goal. in the meantime there are always many other great coins to buy/study about.
Someone listed this 1918 Buffalo Nickel as au on the bay. Well, it not au it's an uncirculated Buff and I would guess the grade as ms-63. Because of the seller not being able to grade nor image very well I just scored!! I down loaded the seller images and fussed with them a bit. These are my images. I won this coin for $49.00 LOLOL. I love this hobby!!....DEX
Nice! Not quite as much with lowball grades, but I have definately made out big time thanks to crummy pics. Well done!
It's there big tee, I'll post a picture of the obverse with a arrow to the double ear, nothing is under the chin for a marker
This just came in the mail today. It's got a nice raised line on Jefferson's head running North/South. Maybe a die scratch? There's also one coming out of the bottom of his chin that curves towards his neck. It's a lot harder to see in the pic though.
2005-P Minnesota Extra Tree Wexlers DDR #61 This one is as Rare as they come, There are no Cross References, or Die Markers, They have a Die Markers now, long Die Crack runs from Washington bust, right though the designer initials. Mr. Wexler is the only one to have seen one of theses :lurker:
I saw this Alfred E. Newman 1 Oz round sell for 96.00 about a month ago, well, I managed to get this one for 39.00. Not too bad I suppose. Makes me wish I kept all my Mad Magazines.
Yo Dex, Is this a weak strike, worn die, or what? The lack of detail on the obverse center is so prominent. I can see the obverse is uncirculated though, thanks to a tip from you.
I can clearly see the one in his hair. Although I can't tell if it is a die crack or a scratch/hit. Same with the crack on the reverse after unum.
I picked up this 1899 Barber Dime today for $7.50 I think I did well even thro it has a high mintage.
