Someone posted this on another forum and it made me laugh out loud. I wonder if all the budding photographers on this forum can relate?
I'm thrilled with this one. I sometimes lowball bid on stuff that I like but probably won't be able to afford, and I was pleasantly surprised last night when I won this. I didn't even remember bidding on it because I did it some time last week. I got it below book value, and it's a beautiful toner. I can't wait to get it.
I have several 58 Washingtons with that classic mint set toning, and I can never manage to say "no" to any that I come across
An 84 P arrived today with a copper rim-toned reverse and a nice continuous band of blue... I tweaked the images to accentuate the blue - it's really quite subtle irl.
A 79 P also arrived with nice color. This is basically the aesthetic of my Dansco album - toned business strikes contrasted with cameo proofs - I like the look of it. This image has not been tweaked...
Finally broke down and got the 1970-s level seven (small date) LMC. The last coin I needed to finish my LMC. Been looking a while now to find a really nice one. This one is MS65 and got it for $100. It's in the mail so this is the sellers pic. Will take many nice photos once in had.
Everyone is always asking "is this a 1970 s small date?" And this coin shows exactly what I look for. It isn't the date that makes it an obvious small date but the "sinking TY" in LIBERTY that I look for first. This coins photo shows that pretty well. There are some other die polish lines that should be there too, but the weird LIBERTY is usually enough for me.
The next thing I look for is the end of the nine points to the middle of the seven in the small date and in the large date it points to the bottom of the seven.
That is a well done piece, imo. I normally don't like face-forward portraits on coins, but that's a very accurate rendition of Truman's likeness. :thumb:
I thought it was well done too. The idea to pursue a Truman coin popped up in that Ron Paul thread, and it made me realize that I may have other famous fraternity brothers on coins, and this happened to be the best Truman I could find. There were others, but this seemed closer to a dollar you would see in circulation here. I wish I could find the mintages on it though so i at least know how many were made. They were made by the American Mint from what I can gather, but still havent found an estimate on how many were produced
arent those 2.5 Pesos just bullion or were they an actual circulating coin. I looked at one the other day on ebay (i was also looking at the 2 gold peso) and the seller made it seem like the 2.5's were only worth their weight in gold and no numismatic value
