I have been drooling over this nickel for a couple years since Tmoneyeagles posted it in our Jefferson Group. I happened to see it go up for auction last week. I rarely buy a slabbed coin, but for this, I made an exception.
I really lucked out on this one. Took someone's advice on this forum (forgot who, sorry!) and searched the recent BIN's that popped up today under Indian Head Cents. This was one of the first listings that showed up, for $39.99 -- an old ANACS MS63 RB 1906 Indian Head Cent! The seller listed it less than 20 min before I happened to see it. Seller's picture is below. I'll post the new pictures along with the other IH's I've bought throughout the past week when they come in.

I picked this up today for my Dansco 7070. The dealer gave a grade estimate of MS-60. Any comments on that grade - too high, too low - would be most welcome. Thanks for looking! -L
Sorry for the multiple posts but had to post pictures of this IH Cent. I bought this one a week ago and was extremely happy with how it looked when it came in the mail -- brilliant luster and a deep blue hue on both sides! I took straight on shots with my camera to catch the full color: It looks like the coin has no cartwheel luster at all so I took a picture with my flash on: I think I'll name it "Stormy Blue"
I did something very out-of-character. I went to a very small local coin show, only my second one ever. I brought a decent amount of cash hoping to find either a PCGS/NGC 1998-s matte proof kennedy, Walking Liberty Half, toned morgan dollar or peace dollar. So basically 1 or 2 coins, graded, safe and sound. Well, there were literally almost NO graded coins at the show. There were a few ANACS and cleaned slabs of various things, which I was not interested in. But, there was folder after folder galore of dimes, nickels, quarters, halves, etc. I'm sure this is true of every show, but I was dazzled by all the shiny things! Well, I really like the thought of BU rolls of silver dimes / quarters / halves. But I never buy raw coins, so this was a little scary to me. I also dont want to "invest" in bullion, but I love the idea of numismatic coins that are made of silver and have some non-numismatic value, which reasured me since I dont really know anything about buying washington quarters or buying raw or buying at shows. I didn't want to pay too much for each coin, but I also knew I was NOT interested in junk silver. I like the shinny BU coins that look silvery. I haggled and bascially got the guy to come down 20% off marked prices. I started picking out $8 BU coins, which I could get for $6.40 each, which is about how much APMEX sells them for. Well, then I got myself into a little bit of trouble and started picking out $10 marked coins, then I even got one as high as $20 which I took for $17. I should have stuck with the <$10 coins, but that now how it worked out by the time I was driving away. So here's what I got. To me, it looks like at least two of the coins are cleaned (posted closeups). In terms of silver, I got 4 oz. So basically $106 worth of silver for around $190 of BU coin cost. In addition, I got a decent spread on years and mintmarks, so this is the next series I guess I am focusing in, RAW!!! to keep it cheap. Looks like a dansco is in my future. Did I get a good deal, fair deal, or did I get scammed? I did have fun talking to the guys there, customers and dealers. NO pressure, I took a ton of time looking and asking and chatting about random stuff. Very relaxing way to spend 3 hours. Yes, 3 hours!! Felt like 1.
Very nice quarters. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, and don't worry about raw vs slab so much. Just learn to grade a series for yourself and everything will work out in the end...usually.
Looked up close, looks like one more of my newps is cleaned, altough not as badly as the 1960d ad 1940 above. Cleaned? And below is a closeup of the coin I think is the prettiest one I bought. Forgot to mention in previous post, I picked up 22 washington BU quarters in total.
Picked this one up from lehigh for $25 a few days ago. Picked this one up from bahabully for a winning bid of .01 plus 2.95 for shipping.
So you were the one who won that coin (the '62 proof). I can't believe you won it for $.01!! I would of bid against you for sure but forgot about it That is one nice quarter! It almost has a frosty cameo look to it!
