Hi Cazkaboom, I sent you a PM with a link that describes them a bit. Briefly, these medals were minted from 1959-1978 (20 years, 3 medals per year = 60 total designs). The US Mint stopped their commemorative series in 1954, and these were struck to fill the void and intended to commemorate important historical events in the USA. They are mostly struck in very high relief, and they can be had for reasonable prices in very high grades. For the raw San Diego commemorative I posted I paid $28 including shipping. The designs are very beautiful on many of the pieces, and the mintages were restricted (in general) to around 6,000 pieces for each design. It is thought that for many of the pieces, a lot have been melted down as "junk silver", but exact survival rates are unknown. It is generally thought that pieces from 1969-1978 are harder to find. A few recent additions. My only CC coin: My first & only medals - I like the high relief on the Hancock: Always wanted one of these Indians since I was a kid:
Everyone needs one of those every now and then. As I have said many times, it is one of my favorite coins, because they were the first type I ever bought
Another ancient addition. I am building a Silver set of this particular Empress, Lucilla. Cost me a few empty peanut shells
Gee, I never would have guessed. Whats next, your gonna say you like halves too? Or maybe as far as to include the quarters, even maybe the stray V-nickle!?! If you like certain coins, just come out and say it! (LOL)
It was listed for quite a few days with a BIN before I decided to go for it. Glad I did, it has much more color than the photo showed.
