As a side note ...this variety came about just about the same way the 1937 D lost a leg! It was filed off lapping the die. The results the staff looks as it ends in Liberty 3 fingers, and then extends up to the hat. If you look closely you'll notice the difference between a this coin and another h 10. Again like the 37 D nickel this is even rarer as so little have beenn found no R factor has been assigned.
Thanks very much for your comment! Not being one to hide my coin opinions, I'll make another prediction. That coin was bought either at a coin show or from a dealer with whom you've dealt with. It was Not bought anonymously at an auction like Heritage online or Great Collections. While it is possible {supposedly} to find properly (i.e. conservatively) graded US material online, it takes more effort than I can apply. Also I have a lot of difficulty keeping up with the constantly changing state of the grading Co. criteria.
Good eye! This is myhttp://www.indiancentvarieties.com/1859_variety003.html 1859 plate coin in the Web Book. I did notice the broken R but hadn't researched it yet, you saved me some time. This coin has the same die rotation, I'll have to ask David if he wants to post the earlier die state.
@Paddy54 That should be fun as there are 77 listed . Plus Dubious listings & contemporary counterfeits. http://www.vamworld.com/wiki/1901-O_VAMs
