Also came in the mail today. 1812 O 106 R3. I have another one of these. But I liked this one too. It has a nice reverse even with the huge cracked die. But a weak obverse typical of the variety. I would have this reverse mounted in the holder if I ever decided to send it in. My other one wasn't and should have been.
The slq is a 1917 d type 1. It is between po01 and fr02. If it grades po01 and gets the bean ill have a set of 3 1917 P,D, and S mint type 1 in po01 cac. If it don't I'll be back searching for another that will.
So you’re hoping for a PO1 grade to complete a low ball set. I’d like to know how CAC determines a PO1 coin is worth a sticker… and if it gets a gold sticker, you’d have to remove it, right? :-D
I purchased 2 of these, 1 for each of my grand daughters as they have birthdays coming up. maybe they will become collectors.
What a nice pop pop! ... I love seeing kids at shows....especially when they are with their parents or grandparents. It gives me hope for the hobby.
Hope i don't get the gold on that one lol. I'm actually setting out to create a lowball type set in cac. But since I already have the p and s mint for this year I want the d as well. I know they have to have the original patina to get the bean. The ones that look cleaned but still grade straight po01 won't get it.
I have a few foreign coins but don't avidly collect them. But yesterday I was browsing one of the local antiques shops. I found a group of (39) foreign coins displayed in picture frames. Now the interesting thing was the picture frames were easily worth more than the asking price, and who can't use a few more picture frames? Here are the coins. A nice mixed batch. Some nice dates and nice toning. And a few individual photos including a 10 centimos with an off center strike.
I haven't bought much in the way of coins lately, that changed today. I should have them soon, it's all up to the USPS. Oh speaking of that fine organization, according to informed delivery I should have my Negro Leagues Baseball dollar w/ privy mark & the half dollar tomorrow. PS I won't hold my breath. I've been on the lookout for a type 1 $20 for some time; I have an 1864 but it's AU details, cleaned and scratched; I decided an 1850s issue would be best for me; this one was at the Reeded Edge table at the local coin show last weekend, so I picked it up for a fair price.
