Dear George, that is my dream coin...I hate you. Love, --Rob. Just kidding! Congrats on the coin my friend! Awesome find!
Going in a little different direction for this one. Sellers images from eBay hope to see it first of the week.
My most recent pickup ... 1906 Liberty Head $2.50 Gold (PCGS MS64) The seller thought this spent some time in a leather pouch due to the "unusual and enticing" color. I tried color correcting the seller's photos to get the color of the coin closer to the shades of gold I found in a number of TrueView photos of old mint state American Gold Coins from the early 1900's. I am not sure how close this is to the coin in hand, but will post some of my own photos when I get the coin in a few days. I think the color variation on this looks very interesting - especially some of the subtle coloration on Miss Liberty's hair and neck. I still have a hard time believing that less that less than 80 years ago you could get a coin like this in change (at face value). Imagine going to a bank back then and getting a 40-coin roll of quarter eagles for $100, then coming home and splling out 40 mint state gold coins on your desk. That little $100 face-value roll would have a fair market value of around $40,000 today (depending on condition). When I finish my time machine, I will take orders for all CoinTalk members.
