I have completed my Lincoln set. The last two for me were the two that are usually last for everyone. I posted the 1914-D back in post #26565. But I am way more excited about finally having this coin. The 1909-S VDB has been little more than a legend for the last 57 years or so since I started roll hunting Lincolns. Now it's real. These photos are just a placeholder for now. I will come back and replace them once I crack it out. It's in an NGC holder as MS63 BN. (Edit: They have been updated now.) Yep, I'm that crazy - to throw away the certification of a coin that is often counterfeited. The holder is badly scuffed and I'm not going to splurge on this without being able to see it clearly. So when I can see it without the plastic I'll let CoinTalk see it too. Update: In the holder Freed from captivity Full resolution photos. Expand and enjoy all blue, purple, and red that make up a “brown” coin.
I picked up this 1820 large cent the other day. It says MS 65 RED but, in my opinion it's really a RB coin.
In full agreement. If you bought it for rb money you did good. It’s a beauty no doubt. I wonder if it turned in the slab
I just picked up this 1796 NC-4 with a counterstamp, though countermark might be technically correct since it is engraved. It is my third.
One more in my set of mostly MS-66 RD Lincoln Cents from 1933-1942. I still need the 1934-D and 1942-S. My 1933-P is an MS-65 and the 1942-D is an MS-67.
After I finished my Peace Dollar set, I started working on a set of Jefferson War Nickels. These are the ones I have, so far: And this is my new set up for pictures. Hopefully my images will improve.
John You do know that just about every war nickel is a variety? And some pretty big ones..varietyvista.com will be a big help to ID them......the 1943 P has like 70 different varieties.,since youe set is in nice grades a nice variety find could add more meat on the bone.Nice set of Jeffersons and a nice camera set up.
Thank you. I did not know that. I will probably limit myself to one from each date and mint, but you've given me more to think about. I may be able to improve the quality of the set by picking the best of the varieties (within my budget, of course).
Wexler coins site is another good source of imformation. If I can ever be of help let me know...if IDK we will find the answer together researching.
