I bought this just now, first half dime for my collection. It's in pretty bad condition, but it was only $6 so I bought it lol. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170770245021#ht_1085wt_1196
I bought her a REAL Sapphire earring and necklace set for Christmas...still no luck. I sure if we had the expendable income she would let me. I have been tossing around this idea of selling my "junk" silver and buying a real nice 1932-D. I only hesitate because I really am worried about the market falling out and suddenly the coin only being worth it's silver weight.
And this sideshow. http://s639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/jelloman1950/1920-40 Norway 1c-50c/?albumview=slideshow
This arrived in the mail today. My digital scale bounces between 11 and 12g for this. I'm still trying to decipher the hallmark though: what does "1/20 10k" work out to in terms of gold purity?
Two Brilliant Proofs for my Toned Lincoln Proof collection. I just got these TrueView Photos back yesterday. I bought both of these coins raw off ebay and gambled they would grade -- I lucked out on that front.
I'm a new member and this is my best error for Jan. Pretty sure this is just a chip (2007P). At first thought it was a double die. Everyone else has some nice coins. Paul Paul
It's really quite amazing when you compare the strike of an old Monticello to a newer one. The 'moderns' (especially the last two years) are sharp, full, and dignified. What are they doing different now that they didn't do back then? Is it the 'strike' pressure?
from what i understand, modern is a lower relief, which means a "better strike" when the die is worn. of course, i have been known to be wrong from time to time. someone correct me if i am wrong.
:smileGold purity??? I think it the amount dipper/electroplated in or gilded in gold.here a metal that has almost the same hallmark. but I could be wrong.:kewl:
newest to my Type Set - 1930 SLQ, 1907 Barber Quarter, 1904 Barber Dime, 1858 FEC, 1852 Half Dime and 1890 Seated Dime....
So, it probably means that the outer 1/20th of the metal is 10k gold? Hmm. That's a pretty heavy electroplate. But still not any significant amount of gold.
