This 1916 Buffalo was purchased raw from a large eBay seller. I kept the exposure a little dark to bring out the toning. I might just try again to see if I like it to be brighter.
Another addition to my type set: 1914-s Buffalo from Mike @ToughCOINS So far, nine dealers have had a hand in this project.
This was part of my mother's coins. No price was on the 2x2, but this is a very brilliant 1945-D silver nickel.
I was hopeful about the steps when I first saw it. Not quite, though. On the other hand I was startled when I picked it up and the reverse perfectly reflected my fingers!
The online description of 1916-D Buffalo nickels says they are generally lacking in details from dies that are often worn. This one lacks detail in the ribbon on the braid, but everything else looks sharp and surprisingly free of any contact marks. The price was in the very low 3 figures, but an MS 64 lists for 4 times what I paid, while an MS65 comes in at 10 times. These seem hard to grade so I don't know exactly where it would fall. It's a splurge to get one with a mint mark, so I hope I did OK.
I bought a nice NGC MS64 on eBay a few months ago. I'm looking for a nice slider for my Dansco Buffalo album.
My recent visit back to my cousin's house encouraged him to bring out the family's heirloom coins. Most were well-worn common pieces, but mid-1800's. He gave me stewardship of this 1847 half dime to bring back with me.
Well, hot diggity! I never even thought about this, so I will update my spreadsheet with this attribution. Much appreciated. I could not track down the attribution myself, so here's the date at my best resolution.
Kevin Flynn's book is probably your best sorce of reference. There are others that are out of print and difficult to find.I highly recommend his book on this series, but I am always willing to .lend a hand should you need another attribution.
Last couple of days have been pretty good. I found 2 clad proof quarters from 2012 and 2014 2 40% half dollars. I think most people don't even look at them since they are newer than 1964. Surprisingly this 64 was just sitting in my drawer and yesterday I found these in bank rolls
Today's show finds and it was nice to see and meet @kanga at the show. Was glad to see you found Paul and Lee to chat with....good seeing you. Tried to capture this coin with a phone cam in hand it's a super nova.
