Indeed I think so. Americas love affair with classic design. Fraser was well ahead of himself when he submitted this design. His models are legendary. So many people wanting to see that design on a "broader landscape" translates into bigger bucks for the newer issue..... Must say, though, I did pull the trigger on a 2007 gold buffalo....
Newest acquisitions This is a bit of what I got over the weekend. The 1903 isn't actually purple. That's the UV light that I had to use so that my camera would focus correctly. Camera died, but I also got a 1884, 1892, 1893 & 1894-O.
1883 S Morgan. Advertised on ebay as AU-58. My photos, followed by eBay seller's photos. A case study in how to use photography to hide an old cleaning. Oh well, it was priced accordingly. And that date/mm is tough to find in this condition.
One of my 2 lights isn't working so I had to use 2 different ones and its half white and half yellowish :/ Too bad about the marks on her face, but the reverse is clean as a whistle. I still think its a purty one! and I got it for really cheap!
Great commems. Do you live near Sharpsburg? My brother-in-law's mother used to live nearby, on the Potomac. I've been to Antietam several times; great place to visit.
I'm glad you like the coin, Mike ! I gotta claim credit for the photo, too. I thoroughly enjoyed photographing the Dan Holmes stash. I'll post up a couple more... including the one which will stay home with Big Daddy Ricky B.
Well, since our man Leadfoot played the Dan Holmes Large Cent card, I suppose I'll follow suit. For those of you who don't know the story, Dan's collection was the most complete set of Large Cents by die variety ever assembled. Yes, Dan's collection was more complete than the greatest of the greats, such as Sheldon, Robinson, Noyes, Naftzger, and Huzak. With over 900 known varieties, Dan assembled all but 2, both of which are unique. One of those, a 1793 Wreath Cent, is in permanent lockdown in the ANS museum; the other is a Late Date in private hands. Dan is getting on in years and has been auctioning his collection. His Early Dates (1793-1814) were sold in September 2009, the Middle Dates (1816-1839) sold in May 2010, errors September 2010, and finally the Late Dates this last January. Earlier, Mike posted a Late Date from Dan's collection - the 1843 petite head small letters. I'll follow with seven more, starting with this 1846. This one will stay home with papa - for good ! Live it up, copperheads !
I'm in College Park. Not too far away. I have not been there for years, although I did take a nice bike ride through Gettysburg last year.
Probably my last purchases for the next 2 months due to birthdays and vacation zapping coin $, lol.
