It is ungraded, but was offered as an "AU/BU slider", but after comparing it to some AU58 coins on the Heritage Auctions site, it seemed clearly better than that. So I agree with your guess, and put it in my spreadsheet as MS63. It's hard to say, once the jump is made from an AU grade to a BU grade, how to place it. Free of scratches or other marks, the chain mail is strong, feathers on eagle breast not well differentiated, etc. In addition, the full head designation is right on the border - there is a visible edge to the hair along the face and the ear hole is present. The three braids are not real clear, though, yet there is a nicely shaped cheekbone. Fortunately, I only have to appreciate it, not grade it! We'll leave that to some future owner after its time with me.
I went down the highway Friday to Biloxi and the 2017 Mississippi Numismatic Association show. Light crowd but a good number of dealers with good selections, both US and foreign. First for me was filling a hole in my Peace dollars: Then along came an upgrade to the Morgans. Love this one. It’s my second DMPL from Carson City: Finally an addition to the Indian quarter eagles. A bit higher than the usual grade I shoot for with these, but I negotiated a nice price.
Been mostly a seller last month or two trying to be a little more selective with new pickups but here are 3 new ones. Posted in Old Gold thread, new from Stacks today can't wait to see in hand: A buddy for my 1893 Columbian. Is this as nice of a strike as I think it is for those familiar with these? I feel like Columbus looks crisper than most examples I've seen but maybe I'm wrong I don't have a ton of experience with these or commems in general. May do a GTG on this one so will hold that back for now:
Cashed in my clad metal detecting finds for the year and picked up this 1925 beauty. Is it worthwhile to get it slabbed?
Got a big load of war time zinc coins yesterday, here are a few of them. I know they do not have the allure of gold or silver, still I enjoy the historical aspect of these ugly coins. I had never heard of Bohemia and Moravia until I researched that one 20 haleru piece.
