I got an offer I couldn’t refuse - from a fellow cointalker. My original is at the top and the newest member of the 1909 family follows.

And a view of the rich deep coloration, accentuated by blue and violet.

Here’s a ’36 Proof Washington I was very pleased to win! Thank you DLRC. In hand, the coin has a distinct mirrored surface which many ‘36 proof coins lack. It has that sort of 30’s proof opalescence to it with some 1st stage early toning (consisting of those pleasing copper, lavender, and golden hues). I tried highlighting/slightly exaggerating these colors in the photos and apologize for the light spots. The slab’s pretty scratched up but the coin is wonderful. The scratches and dark spot you see are not on the coin. I believe this coin would re-grade a 66. It’s getting cracked out tonight, but not for that. I now only have (2) coins left to complete my 212 coin raw Washington album which I’ve worked on for a decade or so. Time flies when you’re drinking rum. If I’m fortunate enough to finish this set, I plan to start working on a U.S. type set and am going to stop slab cracking.

I decided to venture a bit into gold with my first gold dollar, an AU58. I paid a bit extra to get a Type 3 as I like the slightly larger size with the Princess design. I prefer coins with numismatic rarity and not just a precious metal premium, so this is the only gold coin denomination within my budget that fits the bill.

Sorry, I’ve been busy with other stuff lately and haven’t been around a lot. So let me share what I got yesterday at the Numismata coin show in Frankfurt, Germany:

1926 Indian head Eagle - the dealer had a number of those and obviously I bought the nicest one:

And when I submitted a couple of coins to NGC, I received this gift:

I don’t know if I can buy a coffee with 1 Jiao in China, but it’s certainly a flawless piece of paper in a nice sample holder :)
