I just realized why this is. There are two threads similarly names, one in US Coins and one in World Coins. I did not realize this until I saw them side by side in the New Posts list.
I'm terrible at grading at the new market levels. If anybody says that grading inflation isn't real, I'll counter it till the day I die. There are coins called XF today that wouldn't have dared tried to pass for VF in the past. Most MS 60/62s would have been XF or AU in the past. AU used to only have cabinet friction rather than circulation. Perhaps at the lower end there hasn't been as much inflation, but the high end certainly has. And honestly, most toning used to detract from value rather than increase it. Times change, but it's hard on us Old Guys.
Y'all are way ahead of me on Grading and Terminology, and I do agree re the toning. Since I'm just getting back into this after a 40 year hiatus, it is clear to me that while there may be grading inflation, I see by one of my old Whitman folders that I marked a 1909S Lincoln I had (not a VDB) as being worth about 10¢ in the early Sixties.
A scarce 1840-O Half Dime with Drapery . . . A very nice middle grade 1927-D Buffalo . . . A very choice UNC 1918 SLQ (looks AUish in photos, but better in person) And a scarce 1901-S Double Eagle . . .
A couple of awesome proof sets, that I purchased from @sonlarson at a great price. I couldn't be happier at this transaction. Everything went well, and he has plenty more worth checking out. The following pics of them are also from him. The Coins I received did not have the hazy look showing in a few of these shots. They look awesome in hand. And the cases are very heavy compared to U.S. lenses.
Although I am working on a type/registry set, my last purchases were coins of my favorite series: G$1 / 1851 T1 gold dollar ... and a rainbow toned 1945-D WLH: Not really super high grades, but solid coins with great eye-appeal...
1828 Half Cent (my first and long overdue Half Cent) - graded AU 53 BN by NGC. The scratches on Liberty's hair and just below her lips are reflections on the slab (I had to photograph this from a strange angle; this coin was probably a little too large to capture with the USB microscope).
Newest pickups. Very happy. Got the gold for $20 over melt. Nice toner Walker AU-low MS. And then my ANA medal.
