I know this isn't rare, and I know I haven't mastered doing photos so I just scanned this, but the thought of a dated coin from 1546 that I got on e-bay from a guy in Hungary for $7.99 including shipping just blows me away.

You know I have been looking for a colorful 1909 vdb. I haven't found the one that has the colors I want, but I did get this one today.
It'll have to do until I can upgrade. For $25, I am not complaining.

You have some dreamy Morgan CCs. I especially like the DMPLs and the DPLs. On certain occasions I think I prefer the DMPLs to some of the proof ones!

I have always wanted a VDB Lincoln bronze plaque! Was it very expensive?

  16. illini420

    illini420 1909 Collector

Bought this one from a local coin shop because I knew a friend would really want it... it's a pretty neat counterstamp and an attractive Peace Dollar too.

Edited to add that the counterstamp relates to the Sept. 5-17, 1978 Camp David Peace Summit between Carter, Begin and Sadat. Apparently, just under 1,000 of these counterstamps were done and they are in pretty high demand. Usually a counterstamp will push out the other side of the coin somewhat, leaving an obvioius mark on the opposite side. That doesn't seem to be the case with this counterstamp.

Oh my. That's beautiful. Have you ever noticed how 3-dementional the peace dollar is? Look at the obverse through a loupe, and it's as if a real head is there. I also like the TRVST, and it's linkage to Rome.

Are you refering to the 1921 Peace? Correct terminology would be 'high relief', just to clarify things. :)

... Also, that's one interesting counterstamp, Mike! Never seen anything quite like it. :thumb:
