Hi Hugh, while close in grade, I don't think they are all that close in value. I'd liquidate the AU50. It appears to exhibit more surface disturbances, possesses somewhat less luster, and it looks less original to me.
For the first in years I purchase a Uncirculated set from the mint. Most coins are nice some look PL but the Denver cent has something going on with it. Maybe some early zink rot. Not the best images but they'll do.
Here is another newp for me.... Funny story, one day I had a craving for a nice MS-65 Morgan, so I bought one and when it arrived I was truly disappointed by all the field chatter. Bought another and found it to stink as well....C'mon TPG's!!! Grabbed this one and dumped the other 2, buying a CAC hasn't let me down yet. This one actually looks nicer in-hand with slight PL surfaces and a HAMMERED reverse!
I just sniped this one. It leaped from $31 to $163.61 in the last 5 seconds. But I still think it's good value. It's the second S-95 in just over a month. Not bad for a variety with an estimated survival of about 35. I'll show both. The first from last month followed by today's . I consider this Fr2 with environmental damage for a Net BS-1. The triplet at O(NE) being key. I consider this a straight BS-1. In this case the Triplet at (CEN)T is key.
Based off the pictures I liked the AU-50 coin best, but in hand it might be the 53. I agree keep them both.
It has arrived and was a gripped edge. But the coin is meaty with a solid edge so I probably won't return it, even though improperly described. I'll chalk it up to just knowing that most will not know the difference in edges. They probably just thought every edge which wasn't a lettered edge was plain.
Not exactly new to me but they were down in the back of a safe. At least three of them have a bump or two on them.
You Sir, have just blown my mind! I saw something odd in the Headdress, faint lines that actually seemed like someone had "accentuated" the feathers with the point of a fine needle. Using a loupe I realized that wasn't the case, but still couldn't explain these weird lines. Those lines are from the Eagles tail feathers clashing... It makes sense now!!! Thank you!
Very cool. I've never seen (or noticed) the tail feathers clashed, just the shoulder/beak on the neck of the Indian. I will have to take a look at mine now and see if any have that as well. Is it weird to not see any evidence of clashing on the reverse side?
