Well folks...this is my 1,100 post and to be honest with you I was suppose to have made a thread on my 1,000 post for a coin giveaway that I was planning but that did not materialize. I will be having a coin give away celebrating my 1,100 in the very NEAR future that I think all of you will enjoy. More details to follow. For the meantime, lets see your Lion-themed coins you have collected over the years. As a matter of fact, lets see any of your animal based coins that you like collecting. Here are mine, and I truly hope you enjoy. Thanks and as always enjoy what remains of your day.

This lion was carved without the aid of optical magnification ABOUT 2,450 YEARS AGO. As you look at the photo please recognize that the thing is only 11 mm diameter! The denomination is called an "obol". Check-out the snarl. :)

As far as lions of various countries are concerned, the lion on Iran coinage is a pretty tough critter.:D

May you have a nice day also! :)

It was nice to see all the lions in the OP. While I was reflecting on your collection in my mind's eye, this medal came to mind:
    Kitty Medal Obv.jpg
This beautiful medal depicts a kitty sampling a bowl of warm milk.

I think that my favorite lion coin may be this famous 1839 5 Pounds featuring Una and the Lion. Every coin that I post at CT is mine except this one. I borrowed this image from Wiki to contribute to your thread.
    Sample 1839_5_Pounds_(Una_and_the_Lion).jpg
    Nice coin eh?

Edit to add: H8's 10 cent from Sierra Leone is neat-o. There were only 4,200 minted and a tiny number exist today in EF45. That is a nice piece of history from the Sierra Leone Company. Just prior to its mintage, the entire population of Freetown was completely wiped-out by tribal attacks & disease.

Great! An opportunity to show off my 1997 Queen and the Lion 24k Gold Coin from Gibraltar. It's a half sovereign and it weighs approximately 3 grams. Supposedly there were only 300 half sovereigns minted and out of those 300, half were Cameo's. This coin is one of my favorites because it's so rare!! wow.gif
