Love your Mardi Gras stuff Circus. I think I have a few somewhere but will have to look around for them. My favorite is "For the Love of Carrots". All are nice though.

Along with a simpler times a very naive outlook about what the atomic age would bring, or wouldn't bring to pass It is around 39mm and brass have know idea what it was for or were it was given out. More than likely one of the numerous nuc power plants, or displays at the expositions and fairs. I pick them up when I see them and they aren't a fortune.

It is sort of funny, not being a coin collector. That I come across lots of coin dealer and coin show exonumia here are a couple of the latest.

JG Zipf 1.JPG This is a nice clear counterstamp I picked up the other day for a sweet price. It's presently unlisted and unattributed but I think I may have found the issuer.

There was a blacksmith named J.G. Zipf who lived in St. Mary's, WV and appeared in the 1880 U.S. census. He was born in 1856 so he might be a bit young to have stamped this coin. I also came across another - or the same - J.G. Zipf who had a blacksmith shop in either Woodsfield or Laings, Monroe County, OH probably in the 1870s. My thought was that it was either the same man or more likely his father. Since St. Mary's and Woodsfield/Laings are only about fifty miles apart, it's a real possibility.

In any case, I've contacted the Monroe County Historical Society to see if they have any information relating to Zipf. Apparently, a number of years ago a reader of the Monroe County Beacon sent an old picture of Zipf's shop to the paper in the event they wanted to publish it. Whether they ever did or not I'm not sure. I contacted the paper but they told me that their archives are sketchy and are difficult to search. In the original letter the contributor also mentioned that they were going to send a copy of the picture to the historical society. I hope they did. I'll let you know if I find out anything else about this guy.

I collect a lot of numismatic related stuff too Circus. My favorites are counterstamps of course. It's surprising how many clubs, dealers and individual collectors have issued them.
You're 1793 is beautiful. I don't think I have anything from this dealer. The wooden dollar is interesting too. I can't help but wonder what was crossed out. Oh well, he added a nice "smile" to the wood. :)

The top one is a Patrick mint strike, I think as a local shop has the same obverse and it appears on the mints web site catalog.
I haven't had the chance to see if I can get any idea on what was underneath the sharpie! will post if I figure out anything.

    I found this.

The other side I don't know, maybe the dealers address? Maybe he changed his phone number and quit honoring them.
