Thanks for pointing that one out. The 1940 World Fair token shows as a Numista rarity 97 Perfect for me. I added my Life Insurance license with Met. Life insurance 1976. Already had my Property/Casualty Broker License for 2 years. https://americanhistory.si.edu/explore/stories/worlds-fair-and-world-war-national-numismatic- https://en.numista.com/catalogue/exonumia234279.html
These were sold during the Bicentennial 1776. Sold mounted in gold toned money clips, (solid blank back). And in Bevel or pendant with two sides, the reverse is a mirror image. Also the 2GR means 2 Grains not grams. It is paper thin, with a reeded edge. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/exonumia11580.html
I saw these posted by others (probably here) and liked them enough to seek them out for my own collection. Pretty sure I've never posted them, so here they are.
East Detriot Coin Club Bicentennial issue. Brass, C/A, 30mm 20.67 grams. Thick planchet apparently to accommodate edge punch 221. The rim damage on the reverse at 1 O'clock is the edge punch that was slightly high. The 17766 looks deliberate. I don't know why. Also, what appears as wear on the the eagle's head and wings are not wear. The areas are rounded. 18 is how old the club was in 1976. They were founded in 1958. I wish Circus was still here. I believe he was from Detroit but he hasn't posted in here for years.
The doubled 1776 is probably an error made in cutting the die...can't think of any other reason. I have several medals from this club but have to check to see if I have any images. Bruce
Here's my copy of the East Detroit medal you posted, longnine. Mine also has a doubled 6 in the date and is struck over a Canadian half dollar. Yours may be too, but I can't tell by your picture. Can you see any undertype? Bruce
Edit. I should have read your post first. Thank you for posting the images. No I don't have any remnants of another coin or medal on this one. The lion and unicorn are so cool looking. I'm freaking jealous.
Here's another East Detroit CC medal I have. Again, overstruck on a Canadian half dollar. The undertype isn't as dramatic as on the first one. I have one more but need to locate the image. I'll post it later. Bruce
Off hand I can't either. It would be interesting to know who cut the dies for these pieces. Over the years the club issued many medals and tokens. I've seen others but these are the only three that I have. The club went inactive many years ago. Bruce
I think this club liked issuing medals. Or it was a money maker for them. I have another medal I haven't posted yet for their 24th anniversary. Where'd that come from? Never heard of a 24th anniversary for something.
