A couple eclectic pieces from my collection. Walking Liberty Half Dollar Centennial counterstamps of ASE's created by Mike Bozynski of the Royal Oak Mint. Z
I'm not familiar with the sizes of these, so is that a restrike or is it a real half embedded into an ASE?
It is a counterstamp over an ASE. The counterstamp dies are the same diameter as a half dollar. There are differences in the legends of the counterstamp dies, but the devices are pretty accurate to the originals. Look at the reverse where the HALF DOLLAR should be. The host coin is a 2016 ASE. These are amazingly beautiful and rare. I'm thinking he only counterstruck a couple dozen ASE's with these dies. Z
Thanks, I was too lazy to look up the designs. The lip around the counter-strike made me think it was done like the bi-metal coins in Canada, Thailand, Euro etc.

I overpaid for this 2X I was talking to a guy that was in my local place as the store owner was getting me a price. The guy I was talking to I met at our coin meeting a few months back and asked him why he hasn't been back. I was getting his contact information and contact information for his friend that had a vintage silver bar that I WANT/wanted to buy. The shop owner was wondering what I was up to as he was intently watching and listening to our conversation and exchanging of numbers while getting me a price... I felt obligated to smooth out the mood that felt like it was going south rapidly so the owner priced this piece at $25. I bought it anyway as a good faith measure. Hopefully it will lead to the purchase of the vintage silver bar in the future.
It's curious that you would overpay that much just to toss the guy a bone. The grumpy old guy who runs my LCS would still be grumpy regardless.
