The 13th in the Brookgreen Gardens Medal series (1985) is the Stone Carver by Marcel Jovine. The obverse has Pegasus wings up around her body with Brookgreen Gardens, South Carolina inscribed. The reverse has an idealized sculptor carving Pegasus face with a chisel. There is a stylized signature (JOV) at the mouth. It is one of the most beautiful medals in the series. It is 76 mm in diameter.
Phu Cat air base. Brass, incuse lettering, M/A, 5.7 grams, 24mm, VN3690C Well I'm guilty of "conserving" this token. Sorry but the corrosion was too bad. It was eating metal, especially at the rims and denomination. And I wasn't going to pass on it. It's a hard issue to find. It's also the first Vietnam token I've come across that has incuse lettering and a medal alignment. Phu Cat , among other things too numerous to list, was home to the "Misty FAC's" or Forward Air Controllers in F-100's Super Sabres--call sign Misty. They flew the two seat version. The FAC in the back seat found the target and the pilot marked it with a white phosphorus rocket. Apparently this was a new way of doing FAC from the ole cessna bird dogs. And F-100's were the first just as they were first to do the Wild Weasels. They must have been a very versatile aircraft. I come across them all the time with USAF tokens. . https://military.wikia.org/wiki/Phù_Cát_Air_Base
Nothing wrong with conserving/cleaning tokens. The HTT's,CWT's and some of the very early merchant and counterstamps are exceptions. So conserve on!
Spuds Turpentine. Yes, Spuds Florida. Commissary token, aluminum, 26mm, 1.3 grams, C/A, heavy die polish, Token Catalog #8562. Local businesses in the great town of Spuds, and other lumber towns, used to buy commissary tokens from employees at a 30% discount and then redeem them for the profit. So, they were not spent in the commissary for the commissary's profit. They fixed that problem with "Employees only." Spuds is in a area south of Jacksonville, according to wiki. Apparently, they have some amusing road signs in that area too. https://www.flickr.com/photos/caveman_92223/4684995891
Here is a nice pair of the pressed souvenir name tags, one doesn't often get both, the open center and closed center ones with the same persons name on them. one can barely make out the falls in the center of the disc.
Here are the best photos of a couple ransoms I have. A Franklin Institute token, a random double sided V token, and an Apollo 11 token.
