They are nice no matter how you classify them. The second one (1977) has to be the F-15. I love that aircraft.
By now they own the whole or most of the town the two chicken places have been run by the same outfit for years. The are souvenir tokens that they hope aren't redeemed. I have a couple that I have posted here in the past. Slightly different styles. On the one photo there is a price of either $125, $25, or $1.25 around here (Southeast Mich) the go for between $1.25 and $2.50 if they aren't in the bargain box.
For sure a F-15, their first flight being 1972. Interesting aside, Chanute closed their runway by 1971 and it wasn't until 1978 when they began training technicians on the F-15 and F-16 engines. Before that the base was focused on missile maintenance and training for Vietnam (I don't know what type of training that was without further research, likely language training). I was trying to figure out what aircraft was on the 1966 token but I just don't know. Missiles were big at the base then, maybe it was just a generic jet aircraft design to indicate air supremacy.
I can't tell what they are either. The F-4 Phantom would have been their star fighter in Vietnam. But they had a lot of different aircraft over there.
Here's one I used to own that I forgot about. Stumbled across the picture in my archives not long ago. It was a neat piece. I also had a couple of (slightly later- probably ca. 1870s) advertising cards from the same company, with a Philadelphia address. Love these old merchant tokens which mimicked the eagles on gold coins.
I buy in bulk From the LCS, he basically stopped dealing them over the counter. Depending on what he buys that walks in the door. Some times it dry spells , but I do have a back log to photo and post.
The missions would send them out in their begging letters back in the olden days. The idea was if there was something more substantial in the envelope you are more likely to send some money back. They also used to send out the key fobs with the drop in a mail box if found and if the person filled out the information they woud get the keys back to them.
I've been slow on the collecting in general/medals in particular front. I did get this one a few weeks ago from eBay. Delamarre was an accomplished medalist and this is not my first of his. Nor is it my first centaur themed one either. It was right up my alley though so it found a home here. Interestingly it is too big for my normal photo set up, at nearly 81mm. My iphone did the job instead and for medals of this size does a pretty good job. Still use my normal lights etc though. I also use a cheapo shutter trigger to remote set off my phone to minimize shake. Hubs tells me the 'blank side is too boring' to put in the photo, but even a uniface should have both sides shot. Supposed to be the Centaur Nessus and Deianira (?sp). Not many happy endings in Greek mythology...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deianira
