So Called Dollar HK-650 Type II I’ve been looking for one of these rare SCDs for a long time, they are rare. The only other 2 examples I’ve seen are MS condition and sold for hundreds. This was more in my price range capabilities.
Interesting, Paddy. Do you know what the token was used for? Obviously, the three areas were to be engraved for some purpose. It looks pretty big. Do you have a size and weight? Thanks. Bruce
I have done a little more research. The legend translates as Post Office Savings Bank or similar. There are a couple on Ebay at the moment with details engraved in the fields. I suspect once engraved it served as a security pass for access to a savings account - particularly useful when a lot of the clients would have been illiterate (at least in any European language). A paper pass would have been too vulnerable to the tropical climate. But only guessing - I am sure I saw something written about these once on a forum...
That makes sense, Paddy. The box provided for a number (No.) might be for an account number or customer I.D. Bruce
If you do a search on Postspaarbank in Ebay you will see a couple for sale from the US - they want $100 each for them! Theirs have numbers or letters in all 3 fields, which might help working out what they are for.
Here are two items that use to be common in the olden days, given out by companies as a premiums. To register your key ring and they would mail them back to you if lost and dropped in a mail box. This one is a double duty one a St Christophers medal and mail back tag.
