But then I look at my "world coins"and see almost 1100 coins, and then there all the VOC and British and British Empire and Big Silver and VOC (and Ancient and Primitive, etc.), so the total goes up and up. I do have my own filing system and methods. I guess anything other than US could be considered as "foreign" or "World Coins", A? I see no need to limit my collecting greed. If I like it, then I want to grab it. Sorry to digress, let me post a new exonumium (?) I got today.
I collect mainly early commemorative related exonumia, I also collect pamphlets, brochures, books, etc. A couple examples:
I found this fun piece that seems to be poking fun at those who thought because the Aztec calendar was coming to the end of its cycle and that the end of the world was therefore near.
1874 International Exhibition at South Kensington. BHM 2992, Eimer 1633, 51mm by J.E.Boehm and G.T.Morgan. These pieces are sometimes inscribed on the edge for services to the exhibition's organizers, this one to T.Watson Catalogue No. 6202.
Picked up these two at auction yesterday. The Griffin medallist token is a typical advertising token of the late 19th century, the reverse is a well known picture of the Thames Tunnel opened in 1843. The second is more puzzling - apart from what is written on it I have not been able to find out anymore. The depiction of Caxton's press is nice and the spelling mistake amusing! Measures about 45mm and is in pewter which has aged to a matt grey. Anyone able to fill in any detail? I will be selling these and the more info the better!
