Regarding the Casino $10 pieces above: I went to Vegas a few times a year in the mid 2000s and there were a couple of casinos in downtown Las Vegas that had special slot machines that sometimes would give you one of those as a payout. You could redeem them or keep them. I kept mine, of course, since that was the reason I was playing the machine at all. I think they vanished when the price of silver went up. Speaking of silver, here is a 10g piece of possibly Arabic origin, since it shows the Kaaba in Mecca, with a crowd of pilgrims circling it. Sorry if the alignment is wrong on the other side.

Thanks for the look up. I had it, and figured if others are curious enough they will look it up themselves. I think it is more fun than reading a Book.
Although this counterstamp is unlisted in Brunk, I'm fairly certain that I've found the issuer. This looks to possibly be a pocket piece from the wear on the coin, a nice old original 1876 Seated Liberty Half Dollar. Counterstamps on these large silver pieces are always desirable, and this one is no exception. I've still got more research to do, but have come across a man named George Washington Wells who was a Sturbridge, MA spectacle maker. He later founded the American Optical Co. The time period and details of his life fit very well with the coin, but the attribution is still tentative. I'm looking now to see if I can find a pair of spectacles, a case, or something he stamped. If I can, and am able to match it to the counterstamp, I'll be sure of the attribution. Bruce
I bought the ungraded version about a month ago and liked it so much I got a graded piece. Only $30 which seemed fair to me.
