Yep, I understand the reverse is a stock design and I was told that it was a gift to volunteers. We have quite giving to most orgs. since the people at the top of the food chain are making high end 6/7 figures. Only do a few veterans orgs that have the transperancy of what they make. A a local kitty rescue that we foster and raise feral kittens dropped of and pay some vet bills for them. Because I can see were the money goes!
I love it when dumb people run “coin” shops. “How much for the silver rounds?” $17 each “Ok, I’ll take these 2. Are those medals silver?” Yes but they’re sterling. “Ok, so what do you want for them?” $12 each “I’ll take both of those too.” So here’s my $58 haul. The sterling medals are high relief and over 34g so over 1.1oz each. I don’t like the Morgan image but the Northstar Mint makes me think of the movie Meatballs which is hilarious.
Fascinating. Perhaps the letter in the star was some sort of die marker or a way to know how many were out there? Like they knew there were 10 A, 20 B, 50 P, etc? Who knows, right? Super cool you got to the bottom of that mystery Bruce. Your interest in these counter-marks and the accompanying history is slowly building my interest!
I'm sure there was a limit to how many were issued, Jack, so it could be some marker as you say. The token was originally manufactured without the counterstamped stars, which were probably added at their warehouse or at the individual stores. There are one or two reported unstamped, but I've never seen one. I think the history behind counterstamps is fascinating. Even if they go unattributed, the search is the fun part about it. I got very lucky with the English Penny. It always pays to cultivate friendships with people of a like mind. I'm glad to hear that you've become a bit interested in them. I don't know if I ever sent you copies of my personal counterstamps, but if not, I'd be glad to do so. Just send me a private message, and I'll get them to you. Bruce
Very impressive medal, DUNK. Having the original packaging with it adds to its interest too. Thanks for showing it. Bruce
I agree! If I’m being honest, I didn’t realize it was in the original packaging when I bought it (EBay auction).
I don't collect that kind of material, but it sounds reasonable to me. The more original packaging and inserts that come with it, the better. Bruce
It can be hard to get a price for all the various exonumia out there but there are many very collectible Medallic Art Company medals out there and a fair amount of information as well.
Without checking my collection...I'm fairly certain you sent me a nickel and quarter... If I sent you a duplicate military trade token, would you stamp it?
