I haven't added a silversmith counterstamp to my collection in some time, so picked up this one off of eBay a week or so ago. I overpaid for it, but so far this is the only example of a Roath counterstamp known on a coin. Unfortunately, I can't make out the date even under strong magnification. It was issued by Roswell Walston Roath, a Norwich, Ct. silversmith c1820s / 1840s. He later removed to Denver, and what was then the Colorado Territory. The stamp would probably date back to his days in Connecticut. Not a lot of copper circulated in the west in those days, so if was struck while he were in Colorado it would likely be on a silver coin. Despite the condition of the coin, the stamp is very clear and makes for a nice look. Bruce

I posted these 3 on another thread earlier. Found them today, apparently they have been hiding in a box containing a Queen Elizabeth Coronation medal and I had no idea they were there.
How about a 1901 Pan American Expo In Buffalo NY Rolled on an 1898 IHC . So a copper Buffalo...so to speak
