Still looking for something in my jumbled mess of a collection and ran across this. I wish I could read what's stamped on the liner. I expect @lordmarcovan will appreciate that it still has the original box.
My home town. And people say nothing good going on in buffalo. When you wanna dump it. All of us in buffalo are interested
Well, this piece is not a Papal fidget spinner : )) after all. It is a Lateran cross associated with an upgrade to the interior of St. John's Lateran church in Rome. According to Wiki, "The Lateran Cross was commissioned by Pope Leo XIII, and instituted on February 18, 1903. The distinction was created as a recognition of merit, and is named in honor of the Basilica of St. John in Lateran in Rome. Initially, it was awarded for donations regarding the restoration of the Lateran Basilica."[2] Coincidently, I already had a 1851 Papal medal of Pius IX featuring the basilica of St. John's Lateran.
@yarm those are superb! The cross is interesting. Any idea how much of a donation was required to get one?
Here is a 1908 British half penny with an REO motor company lapel pin mounted in the middle of it. I am guessing that it was made as a souvenir of the great race of 1908 (not the movie The Great Race with Tony Curtis and Natalie Wood), even though the race ended in France. When I first got the "coin", it took me forever on the internet to figure what this was all about .
