Sorry to hear about the third coin going astray, Diplodocus. Fortunately, it's never happened to me, but it's always something you have to worry about. Just out of curiosity, was that one a "UVF" stamp too or something different? As I've been documented these political issues for six or seven years now, I've come across over 130 unique slogans / acronyms counterstamped on Irish or English coins. The variety is astounding...far more than I thought I'd ever encounter. Here's an old one I recently bought. Over two hundred years ago, and still as bitter and divided as today. These older pieces are rare, but you see one once in awhile. This coin is actually engraved, and if you can't read it, it says "Hang all the Irish Catholic Priests". Someone came along, probably before the engraving, and obliterated Britannia with a chisel or some other tool. This is a sad example of the extreme hatred felt between the two sides. Bruce
You know I did visit North Ireland and there I got to hear lots of first hand accounts of the Troubles from the 60s to the 90s. I guess I never thought about how far back they had problems. Fascinating piece Bruce.
Can't believe this is still bright copper.1875 French medal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacré-Cœur,_Paris
This item had an address but no city, but a little research found that it was from Louisville, Kentucky. Egyptian Tea Room, Louisville, Encased Cent 1931 Lucky Penny Specs: Aluminum, 35mm, 6.05gm Obverse: Horseshoe / KEEP ME AND NEVER GO BROKE Reverse: EGYPTIAN TEA ROOM / 617 SOUTH 4TH / WHERE YOUR FUTURE IS REVEALED Encased: Lincoln Cent 1931 (Philadelphia) The Egyptian Tea Room was a famous nightclub in Louisville, Kentucky, which ran from 1931 to 1940. It was located at 617 South 4th Street. During Prohibition it was run as a "speakeasy" where alcohol was served. The club offered fortune telling and tea leaf readings.
Here's an unidentified medal I have. No engraver signature. Looks like Athena and the Parthenon to me. From Dijon France, I do like Dijon mustard and this design though... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dijon
Came across this recently. Members only token. I think the mintage should be fairly low. I have not found any info on it yet.It dose have some hitoric merit.
It is an ugly portrait of an Indian for sure, but I like the token, alurid. I have an extensive collection of coin related exonumia, that includes tokens, counterstamps, elongates, encased coins, etc. They were all issued by coin clubs, organizations, collectors, dealers, numismatic publishers, etc. Not a lot of value to them, but fun and interesting to collect. I noticed that your Ha-Ha-City token has Whitehead and Hoag printed at the bottom. My 1935 Pony Express also has these deigners names on it (post # 5419)
