Not an elongated cent. Actually a 'peace' piece, nope, no pun. Given by (in the name of) the then current President of the US to various Indian tribes. If this is real, worth a ton of money.
I just found this video and thought it interesting enough to share. If you know of any other great videos on this subject please post or PM me with them.
Here are some of the first day covers for the bicentennial with the medallions that were in them, There also is a plastic token on the other end of the envelope. Thomas Jefferson Paul Revere John Adams Daniel Adams Patrick Henry Boston Tea Party
Well with that side showing I would say it is a very high probability that it is fake, the other side is more in keeping with style and sense of the times
That one I would say yes! All of the peace medals I have seen on the "TV shows" no matter which one all have been the style of a die struck medal. I would think that hand engraving each one would become expensive, for the people in government at that time with the general very poor attitude towards Native American's indigenous peoples. And since they tended to give multiples out to the participates in the meetings. As I understand the heads of the tribes got silver versions and the less participants got bronze or copper.
I wasn't able to find any info on what the 366th Combat Support Group did specifically in Vietnam. But, since they were a group (big) attached to the 366 Tactical Fighter Wing, (bigger) I'll take a wild guess it was everything and everyone that was part of the everythings that kept figher aircraft in the air per DOD instruction/protocols. Such everyones, designated to do so, might include but not be limited to mechanics, techs, weapons and fueling personnel. What I did find were hundred of photos of the 366 TFW at the Da Nang Base. The 20th image in album 4 is gattling guns protruding from a Puff (AC-47) or Puff the Magic Dragon. http://366th-tfw.net/index15.html 366th Combat Support Group, Phan Rang and Da Nang, Vietnam, brass, C/A, 5.5 grms, 24mm
Loving it @longnine009 ! Let me see if I can turn up anything additional on the 366th CSG. When I get home I'll check Bows to see if he mentions anything.
The 366th, after WWII and before heading to Viet Nam was based out of Holloman AFB, NM. With that said... I have another Holloman token but no picture loaded to my gallery. I'll upload and post it when I get home. Also, after Viet Nam the 366th was sent to Mountain Home AFB. I have a couple interesting tokens from there as well sadly, no pictures to share this morning, they'll have to wait until this afternoon.
When I was checking Cunningham I came across another listing for the 35th Command Support Group: VN3480 Obv. NCO//Phan Rang//Air Base// (sega diamond) // Open Mess Rev. Bamboo Viper // (sega diamond) // 35th (script) C.S.G That is just the coolest sounding token. Maybe Phan Rang wasn't so cool to troops that were there or even less cool to a troop who happened upon a bamboo viper but it still sounds cool. I want one!
