    Here's one for today:

    England Air Force Base
    [IMG]

Alexandria Army Air Force Base was opened 21 October 1942 and trained crews on the B-17. After the war the base reverted to civilian operations until the outbreak of the Korean War. 10 October 1950 the base was reopened as Alexandria Air Force Base and trained fighter pilots. 23 June 1955 the base was named after Lt Col John Brooke England. The base was later closed and reopened and finally closed again 15 December 1992. Today the runway and some building consist of Alexandria International Airport. This base provided pilots and aircraft for WWII, the Korean War, and Operation Desert Storm. Also, they flew A-10s there. A-10s are cool.

The A-10s are cool, Jack. They had some stationed at Willow Grove a number of years ago. I used to see them once in awhile when I was delivering on the base.

The Willow Grove NAS is in Willow Grove (Montgomery Co.) Pennsylvania. Starting in WWII it was a center for anti-submarine warfare, but in 2011 was transferred from the U.S. Navy to Pa. Air National Guard and renamed the Horsham Air Guard Station. It's the home of the Guard's 111th Fighter Wing. I had heard quite a few years ago that the base was going to be closed, but was happy to learn that they found a use for it. There are no A-10s stationed there today.

According to an internet site, the original airstrip and hangers were built for private testing and design of commercial airplanes, but was taken over by the Navy at the start of the war.

I just added these to my coin club exonumia. I have about a dozen or so of these pieces of show "currency." I don't see them a lot, so I suppose not many survived. Most, like these two, are from the 1960s or early 1970s.

Nice Bruce. To my understanding they make show notes for MPC Fest. In fact they do all kinds of dorky stuff: make errors, have a C-Day, make replacements, etc. It sounds awesome really.

Here's a token for today, AK240i Elmendorf Air Force Base:

I'm working on my photography and I'm fairly please with this one. Perhaps if I used two lights I would not have gotten the reflection at the top of the token. Ultimatley I want all of my tokens imaged in such a way. It will be a big job, because I have a lot!

Also of interest, this token is unlisted in Cunningham. It's always fun to find an unlisted variety. None of the ones he has listed include the date of this token, they're all "VALID THRU MAY '88" and this one is "VALID THRU MAY '89"
