Ya, I didn't think it was you guys. You are right though, pickings have been slim. One seller...mpcnut had a couple cool looking tokens from Vietnam. Think one sold but he has another still up. Think it's from an Army civil engineering unit and it has a dragon on it.
Does anybody remember these and does anybody either collect them of have them laying around? I had a bunch at one point, but I think my mother pitched them, like she did with the trading cards, comic books and some other items when I was in the navy. It seems that the only stuff that wasn't junk was what she wanted to save. They were sent out by the DAV Disabled American Veterans From 1941 to 1976. If you want to get rid of them PM me.
I do remember having a few of these, Circus, but don't know what happened to them. I haven't seen one in a long time. Bruce
I picked up a few nice pieces at Baltimore last week. Here are two medals from Stack's that I thought were pretty nice. I got both of them from Paul Cunningham. Bruce
Nice medals. I was reading Ray Bows' Vietnam Remembered which was really a very good book even beyond his treatment of the numismatic legacy of the War. He would tell the stories of how places such as fire bases, clubs, barracks, etc. earned their names. Tough stuff to read.
Well, the pics didn't come up for some reason. Let me try again. If they don't this time I'll try later. Sorry! Bruce
Some silver medals I found metal detecting during my walking days. 1975 Philadelphia Swimming Directors Society silvermedal Saint Christopher Protect Me sterling silver medal My favorite and not a medal but wanted to share. Found this thimble while searching for Indian arrow heads 1800 H.Muhr's and Sons - size 8 .999 silver crown hallmark
Well, here's the pics of the Stack's medals I tried to post in #2847. Couldn't do it earlier for some reason. You happy now, Jack? Bruce
I wouldn't normally have bought this token, but I used to buy coins from the Koin Korner in Moorestown many years ago. They've long been out of business and seeing this brought back some good memories. Here's to the good old days! Bruce
Child hood memories are great to have. I always enjoy those feelings it's worth it buying the tokens. There cool.
Here's my latest. Not in hand yet, these are the eBay seller's (tokens_etc) photos edited together by me: It was located some 30 miles south Phoenix in Mesa, Arizona and was a large training base. Opened in 1941 closed 1993. This isn't the token I'm attempting to make a good write-up for... Edited to add: It is interesting to note that at the official closing ceremony, two men, who as Boy Scouts in 1941 that had raised the first flag at Williams Field when it was first officially opened, were there to officially lower the flag at its closing, after fifty years of military service.
