Here is a nice 1849-O seated dime I picked up a few weeks ago. It is special due to the fact it is a Large Mintmark variety (scarcer than the small mintmark '49-O), and the fact that the head and devices on the top of the obverse are relatively well struck. Note how the "O" is obliquely struck, i.e, uneven in height from top to bottom - this is a reflection that the dies were (very possibly) not exactly parallel resulting in a weakly struck obverse at the corresponding area. Many 49'-O's large mintmark dimes are weakly struck in those areas. A scarce coin at a very good price.
I received it today and these are my photos. They are perhaps marginally better: Perhaps AG-3 details net Fr-2.
$30 bucks Ebay. It's the 1953 Proof Quarter FS-901 Reengraved Tail Feathers. Three easily visible raised lines, gap between ctr leaf and TF and a massive circular die crack on Eagles left outer wing. Picked my first of this type years ago for $60. Sold for the record $3,549. Picked #2 for $28, sold for $3,500. Went on to Cherry Pick maybe 20 more in the under $40 range to free and eventually ran out of buyers with the last decent sale at $1,025. Regardless I still can't resist buying them.
Are these still worth looking for? I knew about them earlier but couldn't figure out the diagnostics.
I think the money pull is limited to high grades at this point. I destroyed the Pop report by finding so many and it's been awhile since I sold my last top example. I just checked coin facts and don't see any recent auction results since my last sale 3 yrs ago at $1,025 for a PR67.
1864 with L Snow-3, Poliquin-4 Cherry Pickers FS-2302 For the life of me, I don't know how a eBay seller with over 4000 feedbacks can miss a variety like this and list it as a 64 bronze. Actually I'm glad they did.
Most dealers don't care...only care about buying and selling....if they are willing to leave meat on the bone.....I'm willing to naw it off....sweet pick
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/283527464115 Another Ebay link I’m gonna drop. Won’t buy the coin, but maybe someone here will. The 1857 FEC is the obverse clashed with Seated 50c variety.
I can not tell you of how many dealers I know personally that could care less about varieties. They tell me all the time to cherry pick them ....and I do at times ,other times I just tell them there's another $100 of meat on that bone. Some say they are just to busy to pick...others are like its all just inventory to be sold. Which by the way makes me 1 happy camper.
Looking at the underlying digits one has to wonder what punches were used . My guess is a half dime as the 1860 h 10s had thin dates .
There are a number of possibilities with the coins of that year. Look for one smaller in highth and thinner. And don't forget the smaller denominations of gold and 3 cent pieces. I'm just not familiar enough with them to recognize the differences without a lot of time and effort.
1882 IHC Broken Top Two.... Poliquin 2, Snow-2, Cherry Pickers FS-301 Purchased at 2019 TOREX Coin Show from a dealers $1.00 box. A top 100 IHC variety
When I went to a small coin show earlier this year I happened to see this one in an unmarked flip in a dealer's pick bin: 1853-O No Arrows Half Dime: Even with the wear, scratches and very slight bend at $10 I just had to buy it.
This is the third thread for this find. Attribute This and Under $50 threads. But this is definitely a Cherry Pick. It is a dateless Draped Bust that I attributed as a 1797 S-124 R5+ for $7.50 and $4.99 postage.
"I just had to buy it!!! " @Nathan401 Nathan.....tell our friend what happens when you "I just had to buy it" an H-10 !!! Bust or seated.... 160,000 mintage nice pick
Well, as a member of H10’s Anonymous, it often results in empty pockets and a cool Half Dime collection!
