I bought this in May of this year, I thought the toning was really cool. It's my only graded SLQ, but would love more.
This coin has a touch of organic matter on the obverse at 9 o'clock. Ithink I'll soak it in acetone and remove the stuff.
I've always loved these.. When I was a kid I got a new metal detector and my very first coin I found in an old church yard was a 1923 SLQ. It was along the edge of the sidewalk and the grass. I can't for the life of me remember if I kept it or what I did with it as things changed several times for me over those years...
Something tells me I am going to drool over this entire thread.... Can't find my pics and my camera has gone permanently missing but there's one in my avatar. Used to carry it around in my pocket but it disappeared one day and I have no clue where.
Yes, I have been able to compare photos with some online sources including info from fellow coin talkers and it is a Type 1 1917S.
This is my only one to date. A 1929 plain. One day, upon winning the lottery I would love to snag a 1916 in MS. Until then, I will chip away slowly....also, and call me crazy, but I have more of an itch for the old (32-64) Washingtons than I do for SLQs.
This one isn't pleasing to everyone's eye, but I like it because it's uniquely toned and the details pop in a certain way through the toning.
