I'm loving all of those! The 5 franc is awesome. Nice colors and I love a good old Patina on a coin with a bit of color.
Here are some dark side coins I like, since we're showing some of those! I have the 3p in hand, the half penny is in the mail.

Well, this is the US Forum - but I don't collect US anymore. So a bit of darkside isn't gonna hurt anything :high5:

Let's try one more - a bit different this one, but it kinda just ..... you'll see ;)

Thank you. Actually, the strike was lighter than I had hoped for the price, so I sent it back. This date has lots of toned examples, and I was looking for a truly superb one. This one was not it, although the picture sure is pretty. ;)

Here's another one that went back because of hairlines:

Here's one that passed the "Leadfoot test" and resides in my collection:

Not a huge collector of toners, but love to look. By far the best is the image I snagged from ebay for my icon. Sadly the coin was WAY to rich for my blood. I will have to see if I still have the high res picts. Enjoying the show :D

Speedy, You can purchase the first proof seated half from Pinnacle, and the half dime from Anaconda, if you'd like.

Here's another shot of the proof half showing the hairlines (sorry for the size), and gives you a better feel for what the coin looks like in-hand:

p.s. beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ;)

The size??...I just happen to be on my sisters cable internet so it wasn't bad!!!

The coin in question (1865) was graded PF 64 CAM by PCGS. The cameo label is questionable, IMHO.

The other coin, the one I kept (1890), is also PF 64 except by NGC. Interestingly enough, this coin has significantly more cameo contrast than the 1865.

IMHO, NGC is actually more consistent than PCGS when it comes to CAM and DCAM/UCAM for proof seated half dollars. It is worth noting that exactly the opposite is true for moderns. Go figure. ;)

    Take care...Mike

    looks like AT.....

I agree it doesn't look much CAMEO...but I think NGC is much harder than PCGS with CAMEO..I have a CAMEO half that I bet PCGS would do DCAMEO....just my 2 cents

I don't think it's hammered, the Brits gave up the practice many years before this medal was issued. It's struck in copper - one of the originals. I'd just about die if I could ever find one of the gold examples :eat:

Good job on hunting that one down Bone ;)

Sorry, just a term I used for such a deeply struck medal (or coin, etc). I know it was struck on a press... but it is just a really high relief item, and looks really sharp.

Gotta watch using my own personal slang...
