this is my 2.5$ Vitellius sestertius , from un uncleaned lot... Can you distinguish the emperor ? , the reverse is not visible
you cant just take the whole lot price of 200 coins for $200 of mostly unidentifiable junk + 1 identifiable denarius and say i got this denarius for $1 lol
Well here it is: JC: $3.50 Augustus: $1.00 Tiberius: $4.17 Caligula: $17.50 Claudius: $1.00 Nero: $5.00 Otho: $12.00 Galba: $0.96 Vitellius: $2.50 Vespasian: $15.00 Titus: $1.00 Domitian: $8.50 ***We can do BETTER (or worse.. depending how you look at it) A Twelve Caesars Set for $72.12 I also think we could do "better" on that Vespasian and Bing's Caligula is just too darn nice for this group. @arnoldoe does have a good point.. perhaps we should exclude bulk lot purchases and stick to individual coin purchases?
I agree. Did I really pay $0.73 for my Commodus Herculi Romano, or did I pay more like $50 considering all the rest of the trash it came with?
Bulk Lot purchases noted.. and lowest individual coin price added. JC: $3.50 Augustus: $1.00 (BULK LOT) $10 (individual purchase) Tiberius: $4.17 (BULK LOT) $30 (individual purchase) Caligula: $17.50 Claudius: $1.00 Nero: $5.00 (BULK LOT) $22 (individual purchase) Otho: $12.00 (BULK LOT) Galba: $0.96 (BULK LOT) $28 (individual purchase) Vitellius: $2.50 (BULK LOT) Vespasian: $15.00 Titus: $1.00 (BULK LOT) $5 (individual purchase) Domitian: $8.50 Anyone have an inexpensive Otho or Vitellius? Can you beat any of these prices?
To be honest, I probably paid too much for this coin. I ended up paying $15.39 for this coin as an individual purchase. Nero AE As 65 A.D. Obverse: NERO CLAVD CAESAR AVG GER P M TR P IMP P P, laureate head right. Reverse: S-C, Victory flying left with shield inscribed SPQR. Rome Diameter: 26.0 mm Weight 9.16 gr. RIC 314, Sear 1976 Reverse:
Calculating the average price per coin , we can have the reverse situation , were the coin posted belongs to the worst part of the lot, the unidentifiable junk. I this case , a coin like this with a average price of 2.5$ was overestimated.
Here is a contender for individual purchase: double whammy Tiberius + Nero (and Drusus) on a single coin for $35
I no longer own this coin, but I only paid $14 for it. CLAUDIUS AE As OBVERSE: TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG PM TR P IMP P P, bare head left. REVERSE: Minerva advancing right, holding shield and brandishing a javelin, S-C across fields Struck at Rome, 50-4AD 9.7g, 28m RIC 116 And here is a rather inexpensive Nero at $26: NERO AE As OBVERSE: NERO CAESAR AVG GERM IMP - Laureate head left REVERSE: No legend - Victory advancing left, holding shield Struck at Rome, 65AD 3.8g, 23mm RIC 313, BMC 245

Here's a Vitellius that was bought solo (not part of a group lot) for $17.50 as it was incorrectly identified as Vespasian. RPC 5376, BMCG 219, Milne 378
Here's another for the list... Vespasian bought as a (questionable) individual purchase for $6.50. Vespasian - Rome (for Syria) - RIC II 756
One more... part of a group lot but cheaper than the group lot coin above... Otho in a lot of 16 terrible and worn Alexandrian Obols and Diobols for a total of $31.00 or $1.94 a coin. Otho - Alexandria - Emmett 192
