Last purchased Probus, from yesterday. Probus, 276-282. Antoninianus, Rome, 281. PROBVS P F AVG Radiate and cuirassed bust of Probus to right. Rev. VICTORIA GERM / R(thunderbolt)A Trophy of arms with two bound captives sitting on the ground. RIC 223.
New to this forum. Hope to be an asset to the group. Probus left facing. Believe it or not but I got this Probus RIC 809var from uncleaned coins about 3 years ago. It was indeed the best find I have ever had. I just recently sold this coin to a Probus collector in England. RIC 809 is a very rare coin and this 809 var is the only known specimen like it. I really hated to part with it but the price was fair.
When you think you have Probus covered satisfactorily, show me your example like the ones below: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1237161 https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=3108079 https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=2016537 https://www.acsearch.info/search.ht...s=1&thesaurus=1&order=0¤cy=usd&company= Why, yes, as a matter of fact, there are gold coins and medallions of Probus, too. Admit you will not have them all and enjoy the ones you can find.
Here's a Probus from my collection with nice toned silvering intact. It's also published at www.Probuscoins.fr IMP C M AVR PROBVS P AVG Radiate, mantled bust left holding eagle tipped scepter SOL INVICTO Sol in spread Quadriga holding whip KAΓ in ex Serdica 277 AD RIC 864 Bust type H 3.84g Scarce
Sorry, no photo! my Probus looks similar to Andres2, also from Alexandria. And a billion tetradrachma. Oddly, though, my eagle looks in the opposite direction !
Here is a "heroic" bust: Probus, 276-282 23 mm. VIRTVS PROBI AVG, radiate bust left seen from the rear with spear forward and aegis slung over his bare back. CONSERVAT AVG, Sol standing, raising right hand and holding globe in left, TXXT in exergue for the Ticinum mint. RIC 351 bust variety. Sear III 11969 bust variety.
Probus coins are one of my interests. Dougsmit your military one with the horse on the field is wonderful. Thank you!
