<p>
The first problem with the coin is that it does not look right. It is not terribly bad, but if you are familiar with Constantine's portraits from Constantinople it is a bit off. For comparison, below is a genuine example that sold the same week that the fake example was initially offered on eBay.</p><p><br /></p><p></p><p><br /></p><p>You don't have to compare only SPES portraits to get an idea. The SPES coinage was struck at the same time as a whole series of new types for Constantine- GLORIA EXERCITVS, GLORIA ROMANORVM and LIBERTAS PVBLICA; which all have the same bust types and probably even share some obverse dies. These are all laureate, they also come in diademed flavors.</p><p><br /></p><p><img src="http://www.constantinethegreatcoins.com/asst/GLORIA%20EXERCITVS%20Constantinople%2016.JPG" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></p><p><br /></p><p><img src="http://www.constantinethegreatcoins.com/asst2/GLORIA%20ROMANORVM_%20Constantinople17.JPG" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></p><p><br /></p><p><img src="http://www.constantinethegreatcoins.com/asst2/Libertas%20Con%2018.JPG" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></p><p><br /></p><p>there are some issues with the fake like the Chi-Rho is attached to the standard.
