Thanks for the links Christian, I am hoping to get over to Germany later this year, but with the way things are going that is not a given  so those links are very useful.

    LOL thanks Darryl & Twiggs

Ah yes, those were the days when a "half mark" was a silver piece. ;) Nice set! Kind of strange that they first made "50 Pfennig" coins (until 1903/04), then used "1/2 Mark" for a couple of years, and finally went back to "50 Pfennig" after the hyperinflation ...

Nice 2 Mark and 1/2 Mark coins! I plan on picking up a Hindenburg 5 Mark coin soon, but so far in that realm, all I have is one Hindenburg 2 Mark piece like yours. A dark era in history, but not one that should be forgotten or 'avoided' by collectors.

German coins appeal to many collectors, and as discussed in another thread a while back, I too collect the 3rd Reich coinage.

I'm working on two sets; 3rd Reich by type (working toward having all types in both BU and Proof) and an almost-complete 2 & 5 Reichmark set in BU. -Preussen

Preussen any chance that you could put some pics of yours up here for us to see? Christian I have to admit I found that switch rather strange LOL 50pf then 1/2M then back again someone in the treasuary was confused LOL I also collect German Banknotes but 1st I collected the stamps :D Not just of the 3rd Reich I hasten to add. Jhonn you will find it can be quite addictive LOL I am trying to stick to the silver coinage but I can feel myself slipping towards the copper :D

And certainly not just by coin collectors. But since most US collectors (those who are interested in non-US coins at all) seem to focus on nazi coins when it comes to German coinage, I don't really see that as a problem.

Yes, as this very topic shows. And no, my previous comment did obviously not refer to you. But what the heck does a "P & R COMMISSAR" do? Collect Prussian and Reich coins maybe? :D

Oh, that zone! Nah, I'd rather keep what is left of my sanity and admire nice coins, Reich or not, instead ... :p

Wow. I particularly like the 10 and 50 pfennig coins you show here. In proof (and even in unc.) condition they are pretty rare indeed, and look just great. Sure, the Schiller coin for example is neat too - but those others are common everyday types which one hardly ever comes across in that condition. :thumb:
