Now that is nice, can I ask is that a small dot just below the kings head or a speck on the pic? De Orc
Good question... I was also wondering about it.. The mint marks are essentially found below the date.. but the dot below the head? Its definitely not a speck.. Perhaps someone might clarify... I've got coins with the same mark..
spock... those are wonderful coins indeed... its difficult to find the empress coins in good condition.. Surprisingly, the Queen coins are easier to find in good condition...
Oh i almost forgot the Indian sovereign deal fell through i wanted something ms 65 or better the fellow only had ms-64 or below so i am still on the hunt and also looking out for the mohur and the 15 rupee gold.
De Orc did you get a look at the look at the half rupee and the 4 anna i posted earlier. What is your opinion on those coins? Thanks.
Ah did you mean the quarter Anna & Half rupee LOL they look great going back for a closer look. De Orc
Yea my bad my collection is going at a rapid pace i have his feeling that someday i wil start calling dollars rupees that will be the day to take a break
Where do you look for the mintmarks on King George VI's Indian coinage? I know it isn't the dot below the King's portrait. Aidan.
(edited to correct errors in post concerning half anna mint marks) On the one anna in my last post the mint mark for Bombay is a dot below the date. No dot = Calcutta. Here's a calcutta anna for example (no dot) ..... Om the half Anna (1942-45), the Calcutta mint has a dot both before and after the word `India', The Bombay mint (1942 and 1945) doesn't. For example here's a Calcutta variety:
So guys how much do you think a toned version of the same coin in UNC condition is worth? The dealer is willing to let me have it for 15$. it's the same as the 1/12 anna coin i posted earlier with mint lustre but it has toning unfortunately no pics. thanks.
