For republic Indian issues, I think all denominations dated 1950 are tough to get. Also 1962 and 1970 dated coins are scarcer then other dates. All these coins before 1970 were slightly bigger and thicker then later issues. I recall that in late 80's, money exchangers in small Indian towns were purchasing these pre 1970 rupee coins at double face value and then selling those to smelters for small profit. This caused a total absence of these pre 1970 rupees from circulation and hence a higher catalog price in Krause. Now, I don't think that Krause had revised the prices in this section in last several years. So, you can still pick nice uncirculated coins for couple of bucks from dealers who care to carry these post-independence Indian coins. Regards Ballabh Garg
That is a very nice silver 2 Annas - Divided legend type as well. It is very difficult to find these coins with lustre,as they almost never turn up in any condition. Aidan.
thx Aidan i feel better now whata bout the high res image of the one rupee before that. i should be getting a 12th anna soon as well. I will post pictures.
It is very hard to get silver 1 Rupee coins with mint lustre as well. This even applies to the King George VI silver issues. It is a case of picking up what you can get to fill those spaces. Aidan.
